West Ham defender signs six-year deal

West Ham have announced Winston Reid has put pen to paper on a new two-year extension keeping him at the club until 2023.

Reid already had four years remaining on his previous contract but the Hammers have moved to tie down the defender’s best remaining years.

The 29-year-old made his 150th Premier League appearances last weekend after establishing himself a first-team regular after joining in 2010.

“I’m very happy,” he told the club’s official website. “I’m pleased we’ve got it sorted so I’m obviously looking forward to the seasons ahead. It’s going to be a big amount of time I’ve spent at the club and I’m looking forward to it.

“I’ve been here a long time now! I think with the business we’ve done over this summer and the players we had here before, I think we can go on to have a good season and seasons ahead. It’s all about trying to get better.

“I enjoy being here and my family does as well so I’m very happy I’m able to stay here."

West Ham have a significantly better win ratio in the Premier League without Reid in the starting XI (45.2%) since August 2014, compared to just a win rate of just 31% when he has started in that time.

In the last four Premier League campaigns only Ashley Williams (976) and Steve Cook (758) have made more clearances than Reid (681).
