Real Madrid have announced Karim Benzema has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal running until June 2021.
Benzema, who is currently injured, had two years left to run on his previous deal and there was uncertainty about his future when Madrid were linked with a move for Kylian Mbappe over the summer.
However, the reigning European champions missed out on the 18-year-old to Paris Saint-Germain and have now secured the long-term future of Benzema, including a stunning €1bn (£890m) release clause.
The former France international is a huge favourite of president Florentino Perez and has become the latest Madrid player after Isco and Dani Carvajal to pen long-term deals this month.
Only Edinson Cavani (9) has missed more clear-cut chances than Benzema (6) in Europe’s top five leagues this season.
In fact, all six of those came against Valencia, which is a record in a single-match played in one of the continent’s top leagues since our records began in August 2009.
