Barcelona are interested in signing Manchester United utility man Daley Blind as they continue to search for Javier Mascherano’s replacement, claims Spanish newspaper SPORT, via The Daily Mirror.
Blind, 26, only joined United last summer but reportedly doesn’t fit the physical profile demanded by new manager Jose Mourinho and could be sold in the coming months.
The Netherlands international, who is a central midfielder by trade, played the majority of last season at centre back alongside Chris Smalling but United are expected to go out and by and out-and-out central defender this summer.
Barcelona, meanwhile, prefer to turn central midfielders into defenders, as they have done with Yaya Toure in the past and Mascherano at the moment.
However, Mascherano has reportedly agreed terms with Juventus and looks set to leave this summer and Luis Enrique’s side will need to find a replacement with Grzegorz Krychowiak another alternative.
Blind completed more tackles and interceptions combined than any other United player in the Premier League last season.
