Manchester United have been put on red alert after Cristiano Ronaldo revealed to a Spanish court that he wants to leave Real Madrid and return to England.
Ronaldo is currently being investigated into alleged £13.25m tax fraud and has spent the last week in court pleading his innocence.
Snippets from inside the court room have now been released by Spanish radio station Cadena Ser and the 31-year-old has sensationally confessed he wants to return to England following his problems with the tax man.
“I never had a problem in England… that’s why I would like to go back to England,” Cadena Ser quote Ronaldo as saying, via The Daily Telegraph.
Ronaldo has been heavily linked with a move away from Madrid this summer after it emerged he wanted to leave at the end of last season.
Paris Saint-Germain were favourites to land the Portugal international if he were to leave Spain, but on Thursday they signed Barcelona star Neymar for a world record £193m fee.
United have been heavily mooted with a move to re-sign their former No.7 but Jose Mourinho’s side have distanced themselves from major deals that involve the very best players in the world after being used by them before for lucrative contracts with their existing clubs.
Zinedine Zidane’s side still want to sign Kylian Mbappe this summer and there have been suggestions that one of the current BBC will have to leave to accommodate the teenager’s arrival despite the fact they have already offloaded Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez.
Ronaldo has finished top goalscorer in each of the last five Champions League campaigns, scoring 67 goals in that time.
