Bayern Munich confirm AC Milan’s pursuit of out of favour midfielder

Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed AC Milan want to sign Renato Sanches but are yet to reach an agreement.

Milan have spent nearly £150m on new signings this summer but have no interest in reigning in their summer spending spree as they look to add Real Madrid Alvaro Morata and Sanches to their squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Reports emerged over the weekend suggesting Milan wanted to sign Sanches on an initial two-year loan deal before having the option to make the deal permanent for €40m (£35m) in 2019.

The Portugal international only joined Bayern 12 months ago in a deal that could be worth as much as £67m, but the 19-year-old failed to make any impression under Carlo Ancelotti last season.

Bayern’s decision to pay £35m to sign Lyon central midfielder Corentin Tolisso earlier this summer will only limit Sanches first-team involvement further next season and Milan are determined to land the 2016 Golden Boy, although Rummenigge insists there is no agreement at the moment.

“I can confirm that Milan have shown interest in Renato Sanches, but there is no agreement yet,” the Bayern chief told German newspaper BILD.

Sanches, who turned down the chance to join Manchester United in favour of Bayern, finished the 2016/17 campaign as the lowest WhoScored rated outfielder for Ancelotti’s side (6.43), after only managing six starts and 11 substitute appearances in the Bundesliga.
