Wolfsburg have announced they have completed a deal to sign Riechedly Bazoer from Ajax in a deal worth €12m (£10.1m).
Bazoer, 20, has agreed terms on a five-year deal until 2021 with the Bundesliga strugglers and will officially join when the January transfer window opens.
The Netherlands international is highly rated and had been linked with a move to Barcelona during his breakthrough campaign last season.
However, Bazoer has fallen down the pecking order at Ajax this season under new manager Peter Bosz, who confirmed the midfielder would be leaving in January earlier this month.
“I know Riechedly Bazoer well and firmly believe in the quality he possesses,” Wolfsburg head coach Valerien Ismael told the club’s official website. “He suits our team perfectly and can help VfL get back on the right track.
Bazoer’s decision to join Wolfsburg at his moment in time has certainly raised eyebrows, with the club currently in turmoil. It perhaps hints that Julian Draxler will be sold in January, with it widely reportedly the Germany international has played his last game for the club already.
The Ajax midfielder has only featured five times in the league this season and hasn’t even appeared since an 11-minute cameo at the end of the club’s 1-1 draw with Feyenoord at the end of October.
