United hoping to snare Chelsea target

Manchester United are hoping to pip Chelsea to the signature of Stoke City stopper Asmir Begovic.

The Bosnian has been strongly linked with a move to the Blues, who are keen to bring in another goalkeeper following Petr Cech's move to Arsenal.

Chelsea were seemingly in the driving seat to secure the services of 28-year-old, who looks to have lost his starting spot to Jack Butland at the Britannia Stadium.

However, United are now hoping to land Begovic, according to reports on Monday morning.

Louis van Gaal's side are looking to bring in another shotstopper as a replacement for David de Gea, who is expected to sign for Real Madrid this summer.

United have been linked with a host of goalkeepers this summer, with Hugo Lloris and Samir Handanovic among those mooted as De Gea's potential replacement at Old Trafford.
