Barcelona have emerged as suitors for Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka, reports SportBild.
Goretzka has entered the final 12 months of his existing deal and is unlikely to renew with Schalke despite the fact they are willing to make him the best-paid player in club’s history.
Bayern Munich have reportedly already agreed terms with Goretzka for when his contract expires at the end of the season but Carlo Ancelotti’s side could now face competition from Barcelona.
Ernesto Valverde’s side are looking to inject some younger blood into their central midfield options given Andres Iniesta is 33 and Ivan Rakitic will be 30 in March.
Since August 2015, Goretzka has won possession in the middle third more times than any other Bundesliga player (237).
