Raheem Sterling could be dropped in favour of Marcus Rashford for England’s World Cup qualifier against Slovakia on Monday, reports The Daily Mirror.
The 22-year-old was hooked at half time by Gareth Southgate during England’s 4-0 win away to Malta on Friday and could now be replaced in the starting XI.
Rashford is set to be rewarded with a starting berth at Wembley after thriving during the second half of England’s underwhelming win over Malta.
Sterling has endured a difficult start to the season for club and country after being touted as a possibly makeweight in a deal for Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez.
The City No.7 has scored two goals in the league this season but was sent off in the dying embers of their 2-1 win away to Bournemouth last time out.
In the last five Premier League campaigns, only Jamie Vardy (10) has won more penalties than Sterling (8).
