Manchester United summer signing admits room for improvement

Manchester United summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan has conceded he is still trying to adapt to life in the Premier League but believes supporters will see the best of him next season.

The Premier League giants paid in excess of £30m to bring Mkhitaryan to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund in the summer but this season has been far from straight forward for the Armenia international.

Mkhitaryan was expected to be a key player for United when he joined but started the season out of favour under Jose Mourinho and appeared on the way out of Old Trafford after struggling to impress his new manager upon arrival.

However, the 27-year-old has since convinced Mourinho of his worth but the creative midfielder admits there is still more to come from him this season.

“No, not yet,” Mkhitaryan told United Review when asked if he has fully adapted to the Premier League. “I still have places where I can improve and room to improve. I know myself very well and I am sure that I can do better, and I will do better, because I am confident.”

“I know very well within myself I can do more, I want to say that, for next year, I am going to have more goals and assists. Of course, you can improve in every aspect. There is not one side that you can say I am good on it and then I don’t have to work on that facet.

“You have to work on every side to your game, in every aspect, because you just have to keep working hard to improve.”

Mkhitaryan was dropped from the starting XI for United’s 1-1 draw with Everton in midweek after turning in a performance against West Brom at the weekend that riled Mourinho, but the former Dortmund star is expected to return to the team against Sunderland on Sunday.

When taking into account starts alone for United in all competitions this season, only four players have achieved a higher rating than Mkhitaryan (7.32).
