Madrid linked with Europe’s most prolific striker

Real Madrid are poised to move for Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski in the summer amid growing uncertainty over the futures of Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo, according to Polish newspaper Przeglad Sportowy.

Lewandowski, 27, still has four years left to run on his current deal with Bayern, but has earned huge plaudits this season following his breathtaking start to the campaign.

Madrid have been interested in the Poland international since he single-handily dumped them out the Champions League in 2013 and Florentino Perez’s attempts to sign the forward came after he had already agreed to join Bayern.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker failed to cool reports when quizzed on the issue on international duty and was even willing to pose for a photograph holding the newspaper with the headline “Madrid dream of Lewy.”

Since the start of season, no player is averaging more goals per game than Lewandowski in Europe’s top five leagues (1.3).
