United make Stones top summer target

Manchester United have earmarked Everton defender John Stones as their main summer transfer target, according to The Independent.

Louis van Gaal’s side are ready to battle Chelsea for the England international’s signature and are even prepared to set a new world-record fee to land the defender.

Stones, 21, was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea over the summer and the Blues had several bids rejected. And United will likely have to pay in the region of £50m to secure his services following an impressive start to the season.

The Everton No.5 is not only a fantastic ball playing defender, but he is also developing an acute ability to anticipate danger. In fact, only Gareth Barry has blocked more shots than Stones for Everton in the Premier League this season.
