Valencia sack Neville

Valencia have announced they have sacked Gary Neville after just four months in charge.

Neville was named Nuno’s shock replacement on an interim basis until the end of the season at the start of December, but the Englishman has struggled to have any positive effect on the club.

The former Manchester United captain was made to wait 10 matches before picking up his first league win in charge of Valencia and has overseen the club knocked out of the Copa del Rey and Europa League.

“I want to thank the Valencia Football Club, the fans, the coaching staff, workers and players,” Neville told the club’s official website.

“I would have liked to continue the work I started, but I understand that we are in a business that is based on the results and in 28 games- 10 wins, seven draws and 11 defeats, which is not the level demanded by me or by this club."

Pako Ayestaran, who only returned to the club as a coach in February, will take on the role of first-team responsibilities until the end of the season.

Neville’s managed a dire win ratio of just 18.8% in the league after winning just three of his 16 matches in charge. Valencia are currently 14th in the league and just six points above the bottom three.
