Aston Villa and Tottenham end interest in Championship hitman

Premier League pair Aston Villa and Tottenham have opted against making a move for Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic this month having been quoted £40m by the Whites for the Serb hitman, reports The Star on Sunday.

Mitrovic, who misses today's FA Cup trip to Manchester City through injury, has been in fine form for the west London outfit this season having scored 18 league goals from 26 outings.

The 25-year-old has the option to leave Fulham in the summer if the club fails to secure promotion to the Premier League.

However, Villa and Spurs had considered making a move for Mitrovic this month as the two teams strive to bolster their striking options.

The Villans have already brought in Mbwana Samatta to ease Wesley's absence through injury, but Spurs remain in the market for a new striker following Harry Kane's hamstring problem he sustained on New Year's Day.

Neither side, though, is prepared to firm up their rumoured interest in Mitrovic with Fulham demanding at least £40m to cash in on their star striker.
