Chelsea to return for Juventus centre-back

Chelsea look set to return to Juventus in a bid to sign Leonardo Bonucci this summer, reports the Sun.

The Italy international was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge last year, only for the centre-back to then pen a new deal for the Old Lady.

A deal seemed dead in the water, but with Chelsea set to miss out on Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, Blues head coach Antonio Conte could make another move for Bonucci to reunite with his compatriot.

Chelsea are expected to delve into the transfer market this summer ahead of their return to the Champions League, with Conte keen to strengthen at the back following John Terry’s departure from the Premier League champions.

The west London side are now believed to be readying a four-year deal for Bonucci, who turned 30 last month, and are prepared to pay up to £50m to secure the Italy international’s services.

Manchester United and Manchester City are also monitoring Bonucci’s situation, with City head coach Pep Guardiola once dubbing the defender the best in the game, but should Juventus decide to sell, then Chelsea would be first in line to convince the player to move to England.
