Nice’s slim chances of beating Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco to the Ligue 1 title have been served a major blow after announcing star striker Alassane Plea out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury.
Plea missed their 1-0 win over Lorient at the weekend after suffering a knee injury in their draw with Rennes the weekend before that saw him forced off before the hour mark.
The 23-year-old is now set to undergo knee surgery to correct the injury, which unfortunately means Nice will be without their main striker for the remainder of the season.
With Lucien Favre also dealing with Mario Balotelli’s problems, it leaves the Nice manager short of options in attack. Should Balotelli fail to respond to the manager’s demands, 20-year-old Juventus loanee Anastasios Donis and 23-year-old Alexy Bosetti as the only recognised options in attack.
It comes as a real blow for Plea who had been enjoying his best goalscoring form to date. 11 league goals is at least five more than he has ever managed in a league campaign.
