West Ham defender pens new deal

West Ham have announced Arthur Masuaku has put pen to paper on a new five-year deal running until the summer of 2024.

Masuaku has spent the last three years at West Ham after joining from Greek side Olympiacos in a deal worth £6m.

The 25-year-old’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of next season but West Ham have moved to secure his long-term services.

“I am very happy and very proud,” Masuaku told the club’s official website. “For me it was an easy decision. The club wanted me to stay and so I didn’t even need to think about it – it was just a matter of time. Now I am looking forward to the Premier League season and giving my all for this club I love.

“It hasn’t been an easy road for me since I first arrived at the club but I have always been positive and I hope and I think that the future is bright for West Ham, and hopefully for me and the team.

“I am very excited, and happy to be a part of things here. The manager has been very good to me and I hope now I can repay his faith.”

Masuaku’s new deal includes an option to a further two years, which could effectively tie down the marauding left-back until the summer of 2026.

Masuaku has endured a turbulent time at West Ham and his initial performances suggested he would not be at the club for long.

However, he has now usurped fan favourite Aaron Cresswell in the pecking order for places at the London Stadium.

Of defenders that attempted at least 50 dribbles in the Premier League last season, Masuaku had the best success rate (72.7%).
