Arsenal manager rejects world-record approach from China

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has turned down the chance to be the best paid manager in the world after rejecting a staggering £30m-a-year offer from China, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Wenger’s current deal at Arsenal is due to expire at the end of the season and his future is still up in the air despite the fact there has been a contract extension on the table for some time now.

The Frenchman has already revealed he will continue to manage even if he decides to step away from Arsenal at the end of the season and he has recently become a target for the ever-expanding Chinese football revolution.

Arsenal’s current offer for a two-year extension would see Wenger receive £10m-a-year, although an unnamed Chinese Super League side are willing to offer triple that amount and twice what Pep Guardiola earns at Manchester City as the current best paid manager in the world.

However, Wenger is not interested in moving to the Far East despite having previously managed in Japan before being made Arsenal manager in 1996.

The Gunners are not only out of the title race but now face a huge fight to consolidate themselves in the top four. Arsenal face rivals Liverpool at the weekend and will be looking to record their first win at Anfield since September 2012.

Defeat, however, would leave them tittering on the brink of falling out of the top four. They currently occupy fourth place but are only one point above Liverpool, while Manchester United are only two points back and could go above Arsenal if they beat Bournemouth on Saturday, albeit potentially only for a few hours.
