Arsenal target opts to stay in Italy with Roma transfer confirmed

Jordan Veretout has completed his move from Fiorentina to Serie A rivals Roma, the capital city club have confirmed.

The former Aston Villa midfielder has been a mainstay in the Viola side since making a permanent move to Italy in 2017 and has attracted interest from a number of clubs in that time.

Despite failing to make an impact in England, relegated with Villa in unceremonious fashion in 2016, the Frenchman has been linked to the likes of Napoli and Arsenal in the past. However it is Roma that have secured a deal on an initial season-long loan basis with an obligation to buy the player for €16m next summer.

The 26-year-old has scored 13 times in two seasons in Italy’s top-flight, while only four players created more chances in the division last term (77).

Veretout joins fellow new recruit Amadou Diawara from Napoli after both midfielders completed medicals at the club on Saturday and will begin training under new Roma boss Paulo Fonseca ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
