Roma rekindle interest in Inter striker Icardi

Roma have rekindled their interest in Inter striker Mauro Icardi with a move to Juventus appearing dead in the water for the striker, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

Icardi rejected Roma’s advances earlier in the summer with his sights set on joining Juventus but the Old Lady have switched transfer targets.

Juventus are now locked in talks to sign Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku, who Inter want to sign to replace Icardi, and are expected to get a deal over the line for the Belgium international.

With a move to Juventus now looking unlikely, Roma have sensed an opportunity to resurrect talks with Inter about signing the Argentina international.

Roma are already in negotiations with Inter about the sale of Edin Dzeko and now hope to include the 33-year-old in a deal that would see Icardi move in the opposite direction.

Paulo Fonseca’s side have also been linked with a move for Juventus outcast Gonzalo Higuain but Icardi’s potential arrival would likely put an end to their interest in the Argentine.

New Inter head coach Antonio Conte has already made it clear Icardi does not feature in his plans going forward and that the 26-year-old is transfer listed.

Despite dropping completely out of favour at Inter last season, Icardi still managed to reach double figures for goals (11).

In fact, Icardi has scored at least 10 goals in six of the last seven Serie A campaigns.
