Liverpool reject Barcelona bid for Brazilian star

Liverpool have rejected a £72m bid from Barcelona for key attacker Philippe Coutinho, according to the Liverpool ECHO.

The Brazil international has been heavily linked with a move to the La Liga giants in recent months and Barcelona look to have made their initial move for one of their top targets.

The Blaugrana are bracing themselves for the potential departure of Neymar, who is rumoured to be on the cusp of an astonishing €222m move to Ligue 1 side PSG.

And Barcelona are eyeing up potential replacements for the 25-year-old, with Coutinho identified as a possible signing for Ernesto Valverde’s side.

However, Liverpool are adamant that their 25-year-old Brazilian star is not for sale, with head coach Jurgen Klopp building his side around the talented attacker.

Coutinho only penned a new deal in January, which is worth £150,000 a week and has no release clause.

The former Inter ace was Liverpool’s joint top scorer in the Premier League last season with 13 goals to his name.
