Olivier Giroud has revealed he came close to joining Everton over the summer but is adamant he made the right choice to stay at Arsenal.
The France international considered leaving Arsenal in order to find regular first-team football over the summer in the wake of Alexandre Lacazette’s club-record arrival.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman was desperate to sign the 31-year-old but Giroud insists he made the right choice to snub the Toffees despite the fact he has failed to start a single Premier League game this season.
“I had the opportunity to leave [Arsenal], he told French TV station Canal Plus, via Sky Sports.
“I was very close to another English club, Everton. But I think I made the best choice.”
With the World Cup around the corner, Giroud will be hopeful of improving on his record of seven substitute appearances in the Premier League so far this season.
In the last three Premier League campaigns, Giroud has scored at least four more goals as a substitute than any other player (10).
