Manchester United agreed a €30m (£22m) with Benfica for winger Nicolas Gaitan in the summer, according to A Bola.
The Premier League outfit have been linked with Gaitan for years and reportedly had a deal in place over the summer.
However, United manager Louis van Gaal pulled the plug on the move after signing Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial.
Gaitan has started the Champions League in fine fashion and is currently the fifth highest rated player in the competition this season (8.91). The Argentina international has also been awarded the WhoScored man of the match in each of Benfica’s opening two matches.
