Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has revealed he would welcome John Terry back to the club in a coaching capacity with open arms.
The 37-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving Aston Villa at the end of last season but is determined to continue playing.
Terry was heavily linked with a shock move to Spartak Moscow last week and even had a medical with the Russian giants.
The former Chelsea captain ended up turning down a move to Russia for family reasons but Sarri insists there is a coaching position waiting for him at Stamford Bridge.
“It is up to him because if he wants to play for another season,” The Daily Mirror quote Sarri as saying. “I think it is right he tries to play but if he wants to help us I am really very happy.
“I don’t know if there is a chance he told me other things. I am talking about a week ago. He told me he wants to play but I don’t know, I have to speak to him.
“Chelsea is his home. Of course I am open [to having] him because of his history with the club. He has won everything with the club so it is up to him.
“Here he is a point of reference, here it is John Terry’s home so he will be very important for everybody, only the presence.”
The veteran centre-back started 35 league games for Villa last season and earned his highest WhoScored rating (6.98) in a single-league campaign for the first time since 2014/15 (7.03).
