Marseille set to seal €8m deal for Monaco striker

Valere Germain will make the move from Ligue 1 champions Monaco to Marseille after a deal was reached between the two clubs on Tuesday, L’Equipe reports.

The striker was a victim of the club’s success last season, and in particular the renewed goalscoring prowess of Radamel Falcao and emergence of Kylian Mbappe.

The 27-year-old did make 27 league starts for Monaco last season, scoring 10 goals and registering 3 assists, but his importance to Jardim’s side diminished as the campaign drew on.

Germain spent the 2015/16 season on loan at Nice, scoring 14 goals and registering 6 assists, so should be considered an astute pick up for OM, who have reportedly paid €8m up front for his services.

The Frenchman is expected to sign a four-year deal in Marseille and may replace captain Bafetimbi Gomis, who is heavily linked with a move to Galatasaray.

Germain will link up with Marseille as their season kicks off late in July with the third qualifying round for the Europa League having finished fifth in Ligue 1 last time out.
