Watford announce club-record arrival of new striker

Watford have announced they have broken their club transfer record to sign Burnley striker Andre Gray on a five-year deal until June 2022.

Gray had entered the final 12 months of his Burnley contract this summer and Sean Dyche’s side were unwilling to match his £70,000-a-week wages.

The 26-year-old was linked with a move to Everton at the start of the summer but he has now completed a summer switch to Watford in a deal worth a reported £18.5m.

It means Marco Silva’s side have eclipsed the £13m they paid for Juventus midfielder Roberto Pereyra 12 months ago to make the English striker the most expensive player in the club’s history.

Only Harry Kane (75) has scored more goals of English strikers than Gray (50) in the top two tiers of English football since August 2014.
