Chelsea fail with two Marquinhos bids

Chelsea have fallen short in their attempts to snare Brazilian defender Marquinhos away from Paris Saint-Germain in the final hours of the transfer window.

Jose Mourinho’s side have been scouring the market for central defenders following their disastrous start to their title defence and have since turned to Marquinhos after failing to land John Stones.

However, Chelsea now appear to have failed in their pursuit of the 21-year-old versatile defender after having two bids of €35m (£25m) and €50m (£40m) rejected by the Ligue 1 champions.

Last season, of PSG players to have made more than 10 Ligue 1 appearances, only Thiago Motta (92.9%) finished the season with a pass success rate higher than Marquinhos (92.3%), accuentating his statistically calculated strength of 'passing'.
