Wolfsburg sack Hecking

Wolfsburg have announced they have sacked manager Dieter Hecking after four years at the club.

Hecking inspired Wolfsburg to the German Cup and a second place finish two years ago but has struggled to maintain similar standards since.

Wolfsburg missed out on European football altogether this season after finishing eight in the last campaign and their poor start to the season has cost Hecking his job, with former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas reportedly in the frame to replace the German.

“After the last few disappointing results we took the decision to give the team new impulses through a change of coaching staff,” the club’s sporting director Klaus Allofs said.

“On a personal level I feel sorry for this decision. In these intense almost four years we worked very successfully together.”

In four years in charge of Wolfsburg Hecking finished with a win ratio of 50.3%, but oversaw just 3 wins in their last 16 league matches.
