City star ruled out of Manchester derby

Kevin de Bruyne will not feature in Wednesday’s Manchester derby after suffering a calf injury, Pep Guardiola has confirmed.

The Belgium international has been in sublime form this season but has picked up a calf injury since the weekend and is now a doubt for the weekend’s match against West Brom.

De Bruyne, 25, has already missed nearly three weeks of the season with a hamstring injury and Guardiola is not looking to take any chances on the midfielder.

“Kevin cannot play. No way,” Guardiola told Sky Sports. “He had a big knock in the leg. Hopefully he can play against West Brom, but I don’t know.”

If anything the rest may benefit De Bruyne. The City midfielder has struggled to rediscover his best form prior to his hamstring injury. He has failed to score or assist in any of the resulting three matches since his comeback.

Despite that, no player has registered more assists in the Premier League this season than De Bruyne (4).
