Pochettino eyeing new arrivals

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that he is eyeing up a number of new arrivals before the close of the transfer window.

Spurs' only moves in the market this summer have come in the form of Kieran Trippier, Kevin Wimmer and Toby Alderweireld, though they are expected to be joined in north London by some new faces before the end of the month.

Reported targets James McCarthy and Ashley Young recently signed new deals with their current clubs, but Pochettino has confirmed Spurs are working tirelessly to add to the squad.

"I think you know we need to bring some players,” he said. “We work very hard for that. But always if we bring some player, the player who can help our squad is welcome," the Argentine said.

One of those linked with a move to White Hart Lane is West Brom striker Saido Berahino, though Pochettino refused to be drawn into speculation linking the English striker with a move to Spurs.

"If you check in the last few weeks, a lot of names are linked with us. But this is private, our target and I hope it can happen quick," he added.

"I think our philosophy is to mix. To have the balance in between the young and the experienced player. I think our philosophy, our idea and it is good for the club and the future."

Berahino was the third highest scoring Englishman in the Premier League last season with 14 goals, a figure bettered only by Spurs' Harry Kane (21) and QPR frontman Charlie Austin (18).
