Everton veteran set for West Brom move

Everton midfielder Gareth Barry is on the verge of joining West Brom after the two sides agreed a £1m deal, reports The Daily Mail.

Barry, 36, will undergo a medical with Tony Pulis’ side before putting pen to paper on a 12-month deal with the Baggies.

The West Brom manager has been keen to sign a new experienced central midfielder in the wake of Darren Fletcher’s departure at the end of last season.

Pulis is now on the verge of prising Barry away from Goodison Park with the promise of regular first team football that he would no longer get under Ronald Koeman.

Everton have so many options in central midfield that Barry’s first team opportunities would be extremely limited as he closes in on Ryan Giggs’ all-time Premier League record for most appearances.

Barry, who missed Everton’s 1-0 win over Stoke on the opening weekend, is currently four games shy of matching Giggs’ all-time record of 632 appearances in the Premier League and will almost certainly surpass that before the end of the year.

In fact, in the last 15 years, Barry has never missed more than five games in a single Premier League campaign.
