Spurs eye Madrid midfielder

Tottenham are weighing up an audacious move for Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic, according to AS, via Metro.

Kovacic, 21, has struggled to make any impression at Madrid since making the surprise switch from Inter last summer.

The Croatia international is incredibly gifted but has failed to usurp the likes of Isco, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and James Rodriguez from the starting XI and Spurs are reportedly looking to take advantage of this at the end of the season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side would also have to battle with Sevilla, who have also been credited with an interest in the midfielder.

The former Inter midfielder has only made seven starts in the league this season and has been forced to make a further 14 appearances from the bench. He hasn’t scored a league goal since December 2014 (Inter vs Chievo).
