Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus insists Thomas Muller doesn’t need Chelsea or Manchester United amid speculation linking the Germany international.
Muller, 26, was reportedly subject to a huge bid from United over the summer but resisted any temptation to leave the reigning Bundesliga champions.
The Bayern striker has been in sparkling form so far this season, which has reignited reports linking him with a move to the Premier League, but Matthaus believes that would be a mistake.
“He does not need Manchester United or Chelsea,” the ex-Bayern midfielder told Bild.
“Barcelona perhaps could use him, but I do not know whether he can deal with their game. My opinion is he should definitely stay at Bayern for his lifetime.
“He started his professional career at Bayern and I think he should end his career here. He does not need any new challenge as he is always playing at the highest level every year at Bayern.”
United and Chelsea have both struggled for goals this season and could do with a goalscorer like Muller in their ranks.
In fact, only teammate Robert Lewandowski (19) and Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (21) have scored more goals since the start of the season across league and European competition than Muller (18).
