Boniface has been a revelation for the Bundesliga leaders following his arrival from Union St.Gilloise over the summer.

The 23-year-old, who was forced to miss the Africa Cup of Nations owing to an adductor injury, has scored 10 times and provided an additional seven assists in Germany's top tier this term.

Newcastle and Chelsea have both been linked with moves for Boniface and while Bayer Leverkusen would be keen to retain the Nigeria international's services, West Ham are prepared to test their resolve with a reported £50m bid.

West Ham technical director Tim Steidten previously worked at Bayer Leverkusen, with the 44-year-old spearheading the charge for Boniface.

The move has been given the green light by Hammers boss David Moyes, who is hoping to bring in a new striker this month.

West Ham have also been linked with moves for Jhon Duran and Armando Broja of Aston Villa and Chelsea, respectively.
