Middlesbrough midfielder signs new deal

Middlesbrough have announced Adam Clayton has signed a new four-and-a-half-year deal keeping him at the club until 2021.

Clayton has established himself as an integral part of the Middlesbrough squad side joining from Huddersfield in 2014.

The 28-year-old has been a fixture in the Middlesbrough team under Aitor Karanka and was even voted last season’s player of the year by their supporters.

“I’ve put pen to paper, finally. It’s been going on in the background for a few weeks so to get it over the line and guarantee myself coming here for the next couple of years is really good,” he told the club’s official website.

Clayton has started in 20 of Middlesbrough’s 26 league games in their first season back in England’s top-flight since 2009. Not only that, but only midfield partner Adam Forshaw (89.2%) has a better pass accuracy at the club in the league this season than the Boro No.8 (86.6%).
