Former Chelsea manager in frame for Inter job

Former Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has emerged as a shock candidate to replace Frank de Boer as Inter manager, according to The Daily Mirror.

Inter sacked De Boer after less than three months in charge of the Serie A giants following their poor start to the season.

Youth team coach Stefano Vecchi has been promoted to handle first team affairs for their Europa League match against Southampton on Thursday but the search for the next permanent manager is already underway.

Inter’s sporting director Piero Ausilio has reportedly lined up former Lazio manager Stefano Pioli, but the club’s new Chinese owners are alleged to want a bigger name and have shortlisted former Chelsea boss, Hiddink, as a possible target.

The 69-year-old was made interim Chelsea manager last season after Jose Mourinho was sacked in December to steady the ship but has been out of work since. In two spells as Chelsea boss, Hiddink has only lost seven of 49 matches in charge, although he did end up drawing (11) more games than he won (10) last season.
