West Ham confirms interest in Arsenal midfielder

West Ham manager David Moyes has confirmed he is interested in signing Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere in January.

Wilshere’s current Arsenal deal is due to expire at the end of the season and the Gunners are yet to start talks about a renewal.

The 25-year-old has struggled for playing time this season since recovering from a broken leg in September and he has already conceded he might have to consider his Arsenal future in January.

England manager Gareth Southgate has already warned Wilshere he needs to play regularly in the Premier League to make the 2018 World Cup and now West Ham are interested in prising him away from the Emirates.

“You’d hope that if you took a player from another Premier League club it’d be much easier for him to go right into the team and play well. Jack Wilshere would be someone who we’d have to look at if he was available,” The Guardian quote Moyes as saying on Tuesday.

“I do believe the transfer window could be the difference between relegation and staying up. If we can get the right players, that’s the big part of it.

“I also want to make sure we’re looking at players who’ve got time and who can be at the club for a long period and not just for a short period. Then there’s also the short-term fix for me which is, how do we get enough wins between now and the end of the season? There’s a balance between that.”

Wilshere is in line to make his first Premier League start of the season when Arsenal play West Ham on Wednesday night with Aaron Ramsey sidelined.

The England international has so far been limited to five substitute appearances in the league, but has performed well in the Europa League.

In fact, Wilshere is currently in the Europa League team of the season (7.75).
