LA Galaxy have announced they have completed the signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a free transfer.
Ibrahimovic’s contract with Manchester United was terminated by mutual consent on Thursday to pave the way for the veteran striker to complete a move to Major League Soccer.
The MLS franchise has signed Ibrahimovic using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) and the 36-year-old will take one of the International spots in the squad.
“Coming to play in the United States, it is only fitting for me to join the most successful team in Major League Soccer, the LA Galaxy,” Ibrahimovic told the club’s official website.
“I am excited to join a club with a winning legacy that has embodied soccer in Los Angeles for over 20 years. I would like to thank everyone at the club for making it possible to play for the LA Galaxy.
“I am looking forward to joining my new teammates, playing at the StubHub Center in front of our fans and helping our team complete this season.”
Galaxy play the Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday but Ibrahimovic will have to wait to make his debut as he is still waiting to receive his P1 Visa and ITC.
Ibrahimovic suffered a career-threatening knee injury in April last year and only managed seven appearances in all competitions for United since making a full recover in November.
The Galaxy have started the new MLS season with one win and one defeat and will be looking to win the MLS title for a record sixth time and first since 2014.
