Derby make Wilson enquiry

Derby County have made an enquiry to Manchester United to take England U21 international James Wilson on a season-long loan deal, according to Sky Sports News.

Paul Clements’ side are expected to face competition from up to a dozen other clubs for Wilson’s signature.

Wilson, 19, has been out of favour since Louis van Gaal arrived at the club last summer and had been tipped for a move away this summer despite the departures of Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez.

The United academy graduate is highly regarded at Old Trafford, but may seek football elsewhere to gain regular first-team football. Since Van Gaal’s arrival, 11 of Wilson’s 13 league appearances have come from the bench.
