Manchester United linked with shock £35m move for Serie A defender
Manchester United are in the race to sign AC Milan defender Leonardo Bonucci this summer, according to The Sun.
Bonucci made the shock decision to swap Juventus for Milan last summer but could now leave the Rossoneri after just one season.
Milan’s failure to qualify for the Champions League could cost them dearly after spending towards £200m on players 12 months ago.
In order to comply with Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, Milan will have to re-evaluate their squad and Bonucci has been tipped to leave.
Bonucci turned down advances from Chelsea and Manchester City last summer to remain in Italy for the wellbeing of his son and it’s unclear whether that stance remains the same.
Bayern Munich are reportedly also in the frame to sign the Italy international if he gives the greenlight to moving abroad, due to the uncertainty around Jerome Boateng’s future at the club.
However, United’s interest comes as a real shock. Jose Mourinho is looking to sign a centre-back for the third summer in a row, but United are believed to be closing in on Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld.
Only Raul Albiol (294) has completed more long balls than Bonucci (255) of all outfielders in Serie A this season.
