Manchester United goalkeeper close to joining Aston Villa

 

Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is on the verge of securing a season-long loan deal with Aston Villa, reports ESPN.

 

Johnstone spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa and his immediate future remains away from Old Trafford after he was left out of their pre-season squad for America.

 

Villa have been keen to re-sign the 24-year-old since the end of the last campaign but there were doubts whether Steve Bruce’s side would be successful amid interest from other club.

 

Johnstone still hasn’t made a senior first-team appearance for United and has entered the final 12 months of his existing deal, which would suggest he has no future at the club.

 

 

After struggling initially, no goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets in the Championship (excluding the play-offs) in 2017 than Johnstone (8).
