Chelsea offered Paris Saint-Germain veteran

Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva this summer, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Silva will leave PSG after Sunday's Champions League final after the Ligue 1 outfit decided against offering the veteran a new contract.

The Brazil international has spent the last eight years at PSG and was regarded as one of the best centre-backs in Europe for a large part of that time.

Chelsea are on the market for at least one new centre-back this summer and have already been heavily linked with big money moves for Brighton's Lewis Dunk and Manchester City outcast John Stones.

Frank Lampard's side have already invested heavily in RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner and are in talks to make Bayer Leverkusen's Kai Havertz the most expensive German of all-time.

Leverkusen are holding out for in the region of £100m for Havertz's signature and that sort of fee could completely wipe out what is left of Lampard's transfer budget.

With money at a premium this summer, Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign Silva on a free transfer, though wages could prove a major stumbling block.

Chelsea refused to match Willian's request of a three-year deal only for the 32-year-old to reluctantly join their London rivals Arsenal.

Silva is three years older than Chelsea and will likely be looking to secure a two-year deal at the very least.

However, the PSG captain would bring a wealth of experience to Stamford Bridge, which Chelsea's backline desperately needs after finishing the season having conceded as many goals as 15th-place Brighton in the Premier League (54).
