Lloris signs new Spurs deal

Tottenham have announced Hugo Lloris has put pen to paper on a new six-year deal keeping him at the club until 2022.

Lloris’ previous deal was due to expire in 2019 and there had been huge doubts over this long-term future at the club after negotiations hit a snag over wage demands.

The Spurs captain has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League since joining the club from Lyon in August 2012 and news of his new deal is a massive boost for the side and just signals their ambitions going forward.

Lloris had been demanding in excess of £100,000-a-week to commit his future to the club, which would have broken the club’s current wage structure, but Daniel Levy’s acceptance to allow Harry Kane a new deal in the same ballpark appears to have rubbed off here too.

In the last three Premier League campaigns only Joe Hart (29) and David de Gea (31) has kept more clean sheets than Lloris (27).
