Guardiola open to extending City stay

Pep Guardiola would look to extend his stay at Manchester City beyond three years provided the team is successful.

The Spaniard has made a stunning start to life in the Premier League having replaced Manuel Pellegrini as City manager over the summer.

City have a 100 per cent record in the league after six matches and are already overwhelming favourites for the title. Guardiola’s contract is only for three years but the 45-year-old has already looking beyond that period with the club.

“I’m so happy here. So I’m not just thinking, ‘Will it just be three years?’” The Daily Mirror quote Guardiola as saying. “When I decided to say goodbye to Barcelona and Bayern Munich, I decided in the last year. I said, ‘OK, it’s enough’.

But I can stay more time, or less.

"Less time depends on the results, or if the chairman is not happy with me or our job. That can always happen. But, if they’re happy, I can stay that period and If I’m happy and they’re happy, why not longer?

“I’m so happy here, but it’s not about happiness. It’s about the way I’m looking forward to make things good and making fans of Manchester City happy to watch our games. That’s what I want, and when I feel that’s not going to happen, in that moment Im not going to stay.”

City face Tottenham on Sunday in a clash of first versus second. Should they win that it would mean they have won each of their opening seven matches and will enter the international break three points clear of their nearest rivals.
