Atletico Madrid still interested in Arsenal striker

Atletico Madrid are pondering a summer move for Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette three years after missing out on his signature, claims Mundo Deportivo.

Atletico agreed a deal in principle to sign Lacazette from Lyon in the summer of 2017 but the transfer collapsed after the Spanish side were forced to serve a Fifa-imposed transfer ban.

Lacazette ended up joining Arsenal later that summer and it was thought Diego Simeone's side had missed out on the chance to sign the former France international.

Atletico hoped the arrival of Lacazette would convince Antoine Griezmann to pledge his long-term future to the club.

However, Atletico are back on the market for a new striker and are monitoring Lacazette's future at Arsenal.

The Gunners need to sell before they can buy this summer and Lacazette has struggled to nail down a regular first-team berth under Mikel Arteta.

However, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang set to depart the club this summer losing Lacazette as well would leave Arsenal desperately short up front.

Nevertheless, Lacazette is one of the names being considered by Atletico, in addition to Paris Saint-Germain veteran Edinson Cavani.

Arsenal paid £46.5m to sign Lacazette from Lyon, which was a club-record deal at the time, but the 28-year-old has failed to hit the heights expected.

Lacazette has managed just seven goals in 20 league appearances this season and his overall Premier League record for Arsenal reads 32 goals in 87 outings.
