Monaco have announced they have signed Feyenoord left-back Terence Kongolo on a five-year deal until June 2022.
Kongolo has spent his entire career at Feyenoord but has now joined the Ligue 1 champions for a reported €13m (£11.4m).
“I am very pleased to join AS Monaco,” he told the club’s official website. “I look forward to meeting the staff, my new teammates and doing my best on the pitch to help the team.”
Leonardo Jardim’s side have taken a very obvious direction in the transfer market to add more talented youngsters to their squad. They have already signed Youri Tielemans, Soualiho Meite, Jordi Mboula and Jordy Gasper, who have an average age 20.
Aside from the arrival of veteran goalkeeper Diego Benaglio from Wolfsburg, Kongolo, at 23, is by far the most experienced of the players signed. However, his arrival will only fuel suggestions Benjamin Mendy will now be allowed to leave.
The France international has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City this summer but it remains to be seen whether Kongolo’s arrival will pave the way for his departure.
Of the 139 players to contest at least 50 aerial duels in the Eredivisie last season, Kongolo had the best success rate (80.3%).
