Southampton have announced Fraser Forster has put pen to paper on a new five-year deal keeping him at the club until June 2022.
Forster, 29, only renewed his contract last summer but the south coast outfit have moved to secure his long-term future by adding another 12 months to his previous deal.
“I’m delighted,” Forster told Southampton’s official website. “I have absolutely loved my time here at Southampton so far and when the opportunity came along to extend it I didn’t think twice about it.
“I think it’s a fantastic club to be at, with a really bright future, and the ambition shown at the club is one where they want to move it forward, so for me it was a no-brainer.”
Forster endured a difficult campaign last season and appeared to suffer from a sever shortage of confidence at times.
In fact, of goalkeepers that made at least 20 appearances in the Premier League last season, only Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo (54.1%) had a lower save success rate than the Southampton No.1 (59.4%).
However, only Thibaut Courtois (16) and Hugo Lloris (15) kept more clean sheets in England’s top tier than Forster (14).
