Pep Guardiola makes u-turn over future of Manchester City ace

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has convinced Pep Guardiola he can play a part for the club next season, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Guardiola was willing to sanction the sale of the City skipper in the summer after growing frustrated by Kompany’s inability to stay fit for prolonged periods.

The Belgium international has endured a nightmare with injuries in recent seasons and had barely played any part in City’s season up until the start of April.

However, the 31-year-old has started in each of City’s last five matches and his performances in that run, coupled with his professionalism, has made Guardiola back track on his original stance.

Guardiola has recognised that Kompany provides his defence with a level of leadership and organisation that his other current options simply cannot and that has convinced the City head coach to persist with the aging defender.
