Juventus join Manchester United in race for the 2018 World Cup winner

Juventus are ready to rival Manchester United for wantaway Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane, claims SPORT.

Varane has spent the last eight years at Madrid but believes he is at the end of his cycle at the Bernabeu.

Even Zinedine Zidane’s return has not changed Varane’s mind and he has reportedly even told his Madrid teammates he wants to leave this summer.

United are long-term admirers of Varane and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward revealed he was willing to sanction a £100m move for the 25-year-old last summer.

The Red Devils are on the market for a new world-class centre-back and news that Varane is open to a move will no doubt filter through to Woodward.

However, United can now expect stiff competition from Serie A giants Juventus, who are looking to sign long-term replacements for Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini.

Juventus have 24-year-old Daniele Rugani on their books but the Italy international has failed to kick on and not impressed when given the chance to play.

Interestingly, Madrid have won 100% of the league matches Varane has not started this season compared to a win ratio of just 52.2% when he has featured from the off.
