Chelsea line up monster offer for Manchester United goalkeeper
Chelsea are prepared to more than double Dean Henderson's current Manchester United salary this summer, claims the Manchester Evening News.
Henderson, who has spent the season at Sheffield United, has two years left to run on his current United contract and there are huge questions being asked of his future.
There are growing calls for Henderson to replace David de Gea at Old Trafford next season but United are yet to make a decision on their number one beyond the current campaign.
Nevertheless, United view the 23-year-old as De Gea's long-term replacement whether it's this summer or further down the line.
De Gea has endured a torrid two-year period since the 2018 World Cup and his reputation plummeted further in United's 3-1 defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup on Sunday.
The Spain international was at fault for Chelsea's second goal, which effectively killed United's chances of winning the tie, and didn't cover himself in glory for Chelsea's opener.
Chelsea themselves are monitoring Henderson's future and Frank Lampard wants the England Under-21 international to replace his own underperforming Spaniard, Kepa.
Lampard's side are even willing to offer Henderson a huge advance on his current £70,000-a-week contract with blockbuster £170,000-a-week wages.
Chelsea accept they are face an uphill battle convincing United to sell, while Henderson's dream is to forge a long career at his boyhood club.
However, there will come and time in the near future when Henderson will be willing to wait no more and force United into a difficult decision about De Gea's status.
Of goalkeepers with at least 10 Premier League appearances this season, only Hugo Lloris (76.9%) has a better save success rate than Henderson (76.8%).
